Why is the frame white? (Cool Lock, and the heat problem nobody prices)
Every greenhouse quote prices the fight against heat — fans, shade, evaporative pads. Almost none of them mention that the frame itself picks a side in that fight. Ours is white because of a number NASA published, not because of a brand palette.

01 — THE PROBLEM OVER YOUR CANOPY
Bare galvanized steel is a radiator aimed at your crop.
A greenhouse frame lives in full sun by definition. Bare galvanized steel in that sun can run a surface temperature past 140°F — and physics doesn't let it keep the heat to itself. Every hot member over your canopy re-radiates downward, all afternoon, directly onto the crop layer you're paying to cool. Your ventilation system then fights the sun and your own structure. That second fight shows up nowhere on a quote, and you pay for it every summer the building stands.

Solar absorptance — how much of the sun's energy a surface soaks up versus reflects — is measured, published science; NASA catalogued it across coatings in Publication 1121 because spacecraft thermal design depends on it. Read off those tables, a white coating absorbs roughly 69% less solar energy than bare galvanized steel. 03 — DOWN TO THE BOLTS
A dark fastener is a heat bridge. So the hardware is white too.
Powder coating the frame and then threading hundreds of dark fasteners through it would put a grid of small radiators right back over the canopy. So the hardware is coated white as well — deliberately a slightly different white than the frame, which is how a crew can read the assembly at a glance from across the pad. It's the kind of detail nobody photographs and every August afternoon rewards.

What we won't claim: a dollar figure for your cooling savings. That depends on your climate, your crop, and your equipment, and anyone quoting you a universal number is selling. The absorptance figure is physics; your utility bill is your site. Ask us to walk through both on the phone.
04 — WHY COMPETITORS DON'T DO IT
Because it has to happen before assembly — and their building never gets assembled until your site.
Powder coating is an oven process. It belongs in a shop, applied to members before they become a building — which is easy for us, because our building is pre-assembled in the shop anyway. A stick-built frame erected raw on your site can only be field-painted afterward: brushed or sprayed coatings on hot steel, over bolted joints, with none of the durability of a baked finish. The white frame isn't a style we chose; it's a capability pre-assembly unlocks. Same shop, same oven, same 364 pieces — it's all one decision.
Does the white coating affect light in the greenhouse?+
Positively — a reflective white frame bounces light into the canopy instead of absorbing it, where dark or bare members effectively shade and heat at once. Less absorbed heat and more scattered light come from the same property of the surface.
Is Cool Lock paint?+
No — it's a baked powder-coat system applied in our Georgia shop to every structural member and the fasteners before pre-assembly. Field paint on erected steel is a cosmetic layer; an oven-cured powder coat is a finish, and it's covered under the 10-year metal warranty conversation you should have with any frame you buy.
Where does the 69% figure come from?+
NASA Publication 1121, which catalogues measured solar absorptance across surface coatings. Comparing white coating to bare galvanized steel in those tables yields roughly 69% less solar energy absorbed. We cite it because it's measured physics, not a marketing study we commissioned.
Can I get the frame in another color?+
No. A dark frame would undo the point — this is a thermal decision, not a palette. Every American Roots building ships Cool Lock white, down to the hardware.
